Frequently Asked Questions

What is Million Pixels for Hope?
Million Pixels for Hope is a program designed by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to spread awareness of the devastating affects of cancer and raise funds for research, education, advocacy and patient services.

Patients, survivors, family members and friends post an image (minimum 40x40 pixels) with or without a link to a web site. If you are a patient, you could link it back to your favorite web site or blog. A company can also participate and include their corporate logo or banner. This is a great way for you to share your story or promote your business. Either way you are helping increase cancer awareness and supporting the efforts of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

What is a pixel?
The Million Pixels for Hope web site is made up of 10,000 little blocks made up of 100 pixels equaling one million total pixels. Pixels are little dots that are the building blocks of electronic images. Each block of 100 pixels is $10 or $.10 per pixel.

Is there a minimum purchase order?
You must purchase at least one block on the grid (10 x 10 pixels)

Why can't I buy one pixel?
We want our page to include inspirational photos and messages to demonstrate that cancer impacts everyone. It doesn't discriminate. If we didn't charge a minimum amount of pixels, the entire site would consist of tiny multi-colored dots. It would look like a dryer's lint trap after a few loads of laundry.

Are there restrictions on ad size or content?
There are no limits to the amount of pixels an advertiser can purchase as long as they are available. However, the Society has the right to refuse advertisements containing questionable images and/or links to sexual content, gambling, racial/gender/religious/ethnic discrimination, and acts of violence.

How do I resize my images?
Photos must fit the pixel size of the ad purchased. If you do not have a photo editor, we recommend the following free software programs:

Will you add more spots if sold out?
We haven't decided yet. Check out our Million Pixels For Hope Blog (http://millionpixelsforhope.blogspot.com) for updates, tutorials, and feedback.
